Excerpt from design et al magazine & the international design & architecture awards: “On the shores of Lake Rosseau, where granite outcrops meet cool,clear water and pine trees frame some of Ontario’s most coveted views, Carrying Place offers a refined reimagining of the modern Muskoka retreat. Completed in September 2025, this 8,000-square-foot lakeside residence is the work of Muskoka Lumber’s Architectural Design Centre, with construction by North Point Custom Homes.

The result is a home that balances Scandinavian restraint with the warmth and generosity expected of a true Muskoka gathering place. From the outset, the design intent was clear: to create a lake house that feels deeply familiar, yet architecturally elevated – a place that welcomes generations of family, friends, and neighbours without ever feeling grandiose or impersonal. Despite its substantial footprint, Carrying Place presents a deceptively modest exterior presence. Clean lines, carefully considered massing, and a lighter exterior palette set it apart from the darker cottage vernacular common in the region, while still allowing the home to sit quietly within its natural surroundings.”
